Vandoliers
For ten years, the Vandoliers from Texas have been breaking every rule in the book of country music. “You’re too fast, too loud and you sing too high,” they have often been told. But they remain country punks and non-conformists with an outlaw attitude. This is demonstrated more than ever in their latest album: 'Life Behind Bars' tells a story of addiction and liberation. It's about the feeling of being trapped — in prison, at work, in drug abuse or in one's own body. The album was released shortly after singer Jenni Rose came out as a trans woman. She says that for months she wrestled with the realisation that the wall she had built to hide this part of herself had completely crumbled. Consequently, many of the newer tracks are more intimate and melancholic than we are used to hearing from the Vandoliers. However, their live performance is also packed with exuberant and raw classics.
