The Irish Palatines The name of the Irish Palatines from Haßloch (where, for the etymologically minded, Hass comes from ‘hazel’ not ‘hatred’) is a word play on the English-language name for the Pfalz: Palatine. Who knew the Pfalz hosted Irish music sensibilities for traditional folksong, jigs and reels?
