When the town hall clock on the market square strikes at 6 p.m. on Friday, loyal festival-goers know what's coming: the Thuringian Folklore Dance Ensemble Rudolstadt takes to the stage and opens the festival with its performance. That's the tradition, even if it's now nice to celebrate on the Thursday in Rudolstadt. Founded in 1960, the association has made it its mission to this day to maintain and artistically prepare the festival. Old customs are shown and new ones introduced with temperament, humour and artistry: Every year, ensemble director Karin Arnold choreographs a dance that interprets the "country focus".
