Suraras do Tapajós
BRAThe Suraras do Tapajós is a group of indigenous women from the central Amazon region. Tapajós is the name of one of the famous tributaries, and Alter do Chão, their home, is a place near its mouth, with Santarem as the nearest major city. As the first all-female indigenous Carimbó formation in Brazil, their performances go beyond music and symbolise identity and love for the Amazon region. With their drum beats and dances, they denounce the threat to their land and their rivers. Their songs, which flow like rivers, address life experiences and cultural issues - for the preservation of the Amazon region. As guardians of the forest, the Suraras do Tapajós embody hope and resilience.
