Sara Curruchich
GTMMusic is resistance, courage, hope. Sara Curruchich is convinced of this. The artist from Guatemala glows with energy. Her musical passion and her socio-political commitment to indigenous cultures, gender equality and environmental protection make her a role model for many women and girls.
As a musician, she weaves together rock, folk and the traditions of the Kaqchikel people, combining her indigenous mother tongue with Spanish, and the memory of the Maya with current reality. This is also reflected in her instrumentation: marimba, guitar, drums and bass, augmented by traditional reed and beeswax flutes and ocarinas. The UN Women ambassador brings her sound and her convictions to international concert stages as well as to remote rural communities in her homeland. Definitely a ‘can't miss concert,’ as the Washington Post writes.
