Sahel Roots

MLI

This duo belongs to the group ‘Hunter Folk & Malian Roots’ in the country focus, each of which represents a very special musical tradition in Mali. In Africa, the Sahel is the long east-west transition zone between the Sahara desert in the north and the dry savannah in the south. The two musicians Alassane Samake and Adama Sidibe, who named themselves after this zone, have been playing as a duo since 2019. They play the calabash and the tam-tam as well as a Peulh monochord, the Sokou violin, and also a Manding monochord and the Djouroukelen bass guitar. The two musicians write their songs themselves - about topics such as education, poverty, the environment, peace and, of course, love.
