We all love it in some way—traditional or traditionally inspired dances, songs, and the coming together of generations. Yet, the fact that some aspects of the folk scene have not aged well is rarely explicitly addressed. Queer-feminist perspectives, as well as those critical of racism and colonialism, are needed to infuse these old forms with new relevance. In this workshop, we will practice deconstructing tradition and piecing it back together until we feel at home in it once more. You are warmly invited to engage in respectful debate! Peggy Luck creates culture at the intersection of tradition and transformation. She has served as chair of PROFOLK since 2023. She writes songs, invites people to dance or to add a touch of glitter, composes poetry, marvels at the world, reimagines lyrics, and loves getting to the very root of things.
