Mwsog

WAL

It’s highly unlikely that this band would ever let moss (= Mwsog) grow on it: the sounds are too wild and too heavy, the rhythms too dynamic. The seven-piece collective, which released its debut single only last autumn, redefines contemporary folk through an innovative, ritualistic lens. Hailing from the green forests and mist-shrouded landscapes of Wales, the group draws inspiration from traditional music, 1970s acid folk and psychedelic rock. Their sound feels ancient in spirit yet decidedly modern in execution. Singer Mari Mathias shifts between intimacy and incantation, carrying the emotional weight of the band’s elemental sound. The band feels connected “to the struggle for our oppressed land and the power to stand up for a better future and our ancient homeland, Cymru.”
