miniBaroši

CZE

This group exists in two forms. Firstly, as Baroši, a sextet; and secondly, as a smaller trio, miniBaroši, which Czech Radio is sending to Rudolstadt. However, regardless of size, the band is centred around the multi-instrumentalist, music ethnologist and composer Marian Friedl, whose personal vision of world music knits them together. This vision is rooted in his profound knowledge of traditional music from the Western Carpathians, spanning the borders of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia; his background in jazz; and his research into endangered instruments. His bandmate Martin Kocián is a sought-after bassist on the Czech-Austrian jazz scene, and Jiří Pospěch, trained as a classical violinist, developed an interest in folk music at an early age. Their trio miniBaroši is a rich mix of folk, world music, classical and jazz.
