Hunter Folk & Malian Roots
MLIHunter folk is a separate and popular genre in Mali's long musical tradition. The rhythmic basis laid the foundation for the music of Oumou Sangare, for example. Today, modern adaptations are a favourite accompaniment for taxi drivers in Bamako; many Malians also see the music as an opportunity to reconnect with the original idea of the world in the face of the crises in the country, a world based on respect and trust. While Hunter Folk is deeply rooted in tradition, the duo Malian Roots is influenced by it, but has a much more contemporary flavour. With three duos (see Sahel Roots) we bring this extraordinary ethnic music to the stage. Dunun nègè be sogo faa bali la - Those who don't hunt are crazy about hunter's music.
