die knoedel

AUT

This band was one of the most influential when a new folk music movement emerged in Austria in the early 1990s, blending traditional music with folk, jazz and rock. At that time, they were known as Die Knödel and achieved cult status. This lasted until 2000. Then, in 2018, they reunited at the invitation of the Glatt&Verkehrt festival. Over the years, the individual members had developed in very different directions in terms of old and new music. They incorporated these experiences into the earlier Knödel sound, translating that old spirit into new pieces simultaneously. This means not being radical, yet being distinct; sometimes being down-to-earth and sometimes being utopian. They deconstruct Tyrolean folk music with charming and avant-garde ideas to pay homage to the sharp wit of the farmer in the big city.
