Clare Sands

IRL

The Irish Times named the debut album by the Cork-born violinist and singer one of the top five albums of 2022. This will undoubtedly please her family, as five generations of the Sands have been musicians. Clare studied music and Italian in Cork. She played all kinds of styles there — jazz, blues, South American music. When travelling to Mexico, North Africa or Cuba, she discovered new cultures and sounds. This diversity is reflected in her music today, even though it remains deeply rooted in Irish tradition and mythology. Accompanied by the fiddle, guitar, percussion, vocals and live electronics, she forges her own path. Clare Sands winds her way through rugged landscapes to the beckoning sea, singing of resilience, solidarity, kinship and the power of women.
