Bulgarka Junior Quartet

BGR

When world music took the world by storm as a genre in the 1990s, a number of regions immediately caught the public’s attention. Madagascar was one of them, as were Finland and Bulgaria. In Bulgaria, it was the polyphonic singing in particular that captivated audiences. One of the leading groups was the Trio Bulgarka. To ensure the continuity of the tradition, the Bulgarka Junior Quartet was founded in 1989. This was followed by CD recordings and tours, including a performance at the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth. The four singers' repertoire consists of both traditional and newly composed songs by Bulgarian composers. Numerous awards bear witness to the quartet’s reputation. Arguably the best that Bulgarian polyphonic singing has to offer at present.
