Bille

LAT

Bille bring a breath of fresh air to Latvian folk music. They give old songs a contemporary twist without thoughtlessly succumbing to the spirit of the times. This vocal trio's concert programme is entitled Visu gadu dziesmas krāju, which translates as 'Latvian songs for the whole year'. Bille thus take us on a journey through the four seasons. All three musicians have been involved in folk groups since childhood. Liene Skrebinska is from Latgale, the easternmost region of Latvia, while Katrīna and Anna Patrīcija Karele are from Zemgale in the south. Alongside their singing, they play the kokle (a zither) and the violin, accompanied by the accordion and percussion.
