In its 20 years of existence, the octet from Salento has traced the diverse musical traditions of the Mediterranean basin. It brings these influences together in a powerful and boundary-breaking way. Apulian brass bands engage in a natural dialogue with Balkan fanfares, North African polyrhythms, Middle Eastern melodic modes, and grooves from the Eastern Mediterranean. Performed in dialect and accompanied by vibrant music, their sound fuses ritual intensity with compositional diversity. Their current programme, 'Odissea', tells the stories of refugees through a blend of myth and contemporary events, sometimes with irony and sometimes with poetry: the tale of Odysseus's journey as a migrant crossing the Mediterranean in search of a better life.
