Baba Sissoko & Mediterranean Blues

MLI | ITA | CIV | SEN

Baba Sissoko comes from a famous dynasty of griot musicians from Mali. He is a virtuoso on the tama, a so-called ‘talking drum’ with strings typical of West Africa, and the 4-stringed ngoni. Sissoko keeps the Malinese music tradition alive, but also enjoys playing with musicians from other genres such as Habib Koité, DeeDee Bridgewater, Santana, Youssou N'Dour, Salif Keita and Aka Moon. He has lived in Calabria, Italy, for 18 years and is bringing his current project to Rudolstadt: Mediterranean Blues. With earthy blues harp, funk guitar, drumset, ngoni and voice, they create a new, old world. These grooves build a bridge between past and present.
