Ami Yerewolo

MLI

Ami Yerewolo is considered the first female rapper from Mali. She is one of the most important voices for the empowerment of women in her home country - for which she has already received many awards. For her, rap means using the power of words. Her music is a fusion of traditional instruments such as the kora harp, the ngoni and the yebara shaker. She combines these with powerful beats and rap lyrics in Bambara, the colloquial language of southern Mali. Ami Yerewolo has a master's degree in art and economics, is the founder of the first all-female festival in Mali and owns her own event and production company. She produced her latest album AY with Salif Keita's sound engineer AbouCissé to create her own blend of traditional Malian rhythms, current trends and hardcore rap.
