Lakha Khan (IND)Lakha Khan is the greatest living exponent of the, 27-stringed Sindhi sarangi (after the Sindh region). He is a tradition-based, hereditary musician from the Muslim Manganiyar community of western Rajasthan, regarded as oral genealogists and keepers and disseminators of folk tales and histories. One of the last remaining masters of this complex instrument’s repertoire, he was one of the musicians on Vishwa Mohan Bhatt’s masterly Desert Slide (2006). Traditionally the Manganiyar played for wealthy Hindu Rajput patrons. That’s why Lakha Khan’s music bridges classical, folk, religious and secular divides.
